The new PCIe-PXIe-8638 high performance PXI Express remote controller from ADLINK Technology Inc. enables remote control of any PXI Express system directly via a PC.

The new PCIe-PXIe-8638 maximises processor performance for industrial PCs, servers or workstations, delivering dependable remote control of the PXI/PXIe system, and maximum flexibility and reduced hybrid test application costs.

According to Catherine Wu, Senior Director of ADLINK's Measurement and Automation Product Segment, a high performance server or workstation in complicated hybrid test systems is conventionally deployed as the host PC to control all test equipment simultaneously with PXI systems often used in hybrid systems for data acquisition. ADLINK’s PCIe-PXIe-8638 allows efficient remote control of PXI Express systems through an existing host PC, with no extra expense required for additional embedded control, resulting in an optimised solution, which dramatically reduces time and cost for system development.

The ADLINK PCIe-PXIe-8638 PXI Express remote controller features a PCIe-8638 module for installation in a PC, connected via a PCIe x8 shielded twisted pair copper cable and rugged latching connectors to a PXIe-8638 module in slot 1 of a PXIe chassis. Sustained throughput of 4 GB/s is enabled in each direction, with transmission extending to 5m with no decrease in signal rate. Users benefit from the flexibility of remote control, avoiding test system exposure to harsh or hazardous environments. LED indicators on the PXIe-8638 front panel deliver link status information for the PCI Express lanes on the module to the backplane, maximising convenience of system setup.

The built-in transparent architecture of the PXI Express remote controller enables function independent of the operating system, along with fast and convenient detection of all installed PXI cards in the extension system, without requiring additional drivers or software, resulting in superior scalability and creating complicated testing systems.

ADLINK’s PXI controller portfolio consisting of the new PCIe-PXIe-8638, and its top performing 4th generation Intel Core i7 processor-based PXIe-3985 embedded controller, presents a more complete solution than ever for a wide variety of test and measurement applications.
