Whitehaven Coal has restarted longwall production at its Narrabri coal mine.

This is the second time this year the miner was forced to halt and restart longwall production at the mine.

In March it kicked off longwall mining after a longwall change out and a halt on production.

However this was again halted late last month after "the floor horizon at the tailgate end of the longwalll face-line was 'lost', resulting in a difference between the floor levels of the longwall face-line and the tailgate development roadway," Whitehaven said in a company statement.

Now Whitehaven has restarted longwall mining at the operation.

"As a result, Narrabri's full year ROM production on a 100% basis is expected to be within 5 to 5.2 million tonnes," it said, an increase from the previously forecast 4.8 to 5 million tonnes.

The new was welcomed by Whitehaven's CEO Paul Flynn, who stated "it is very pleasing to report that the recovery plan adopted to re-establish production at Narrabri has been succcessfully executed by the team".

"This is a great result for Whitehaven and reflects highly on the team effort by all employees at Narrabri."
