A roundtable discussion of executives this week has seen an agreement that the US manufacturing resurgence is real, but the nature of the industry will never be what it once was.
The country’s industrial sector has been growing steadily – with the ISM Manufacturing PMI recording a result of 53.20 for February – with credited to the availability of affordable energy and rising wages in China and India.
However, participants the emphasis was now on areas such as creating smarter products.
“This is not just about the return of manufacturing,” Charles Peters from Emerson, told Forbes.
“We have to recognize that the global manufacturing game has changed. We like to talk about shift.”
