Clevertronics Pty Ltd recently supplied its innovative L10 Lithium range of emergency and exit light fittings for installation at Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium, helping the multipurpose facility drastically reduce its ongoing energy and maintenance costs.

Located in Melbourne’s Docklands, the $460 million Etihad Stadium is designed to cater for major sporting and entertainment events. The emergency lighting and exit signage ensure safe egress for building occupants when normal lighting fails due to any reason.

Power supply in emergency light fittings comes via batteries contained in each exit sign and emergency light fitting. Conventional battery solutions such as Lead Acid, Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) or Nickel Cadmium (NiCd), which have serious shortcomings, are typically used for emergency lighting applications.

Clevertronics’ L10 Lithium range is designed to address these shortcomings by offering twice the battery life; over 80% less costs on maintenance; increased energy efficiency; and an environmentally responsible option.

Etihad Facility Manager, Honeywell is delighted with the selection of the Clevertronics L10 range of fittings with Honeywell Victoria TAM Operations Manager, Matthew Parisi estimating ongoing annual savings for the stadium to be around $129,000 PA in maintenance and electricity costs over their previous NiCd emergency lighting fittings, with a greater yearly saving over the first seven years of operation. By switching to the L10 range, the stadium’s total energy and maintenance costs will drop from $1,083,830 to $178,867 over a seven-year period.

Mr Parisi explained that the Clevertronics Zoneworks L10 range was selected as it offered the lowest cost maintenance available with fewer battery replacements and provided reduced impact to stadium operations, with greater reliability due to fewer man-hours dedicated to maintenance and replacements. The energy saving of approximately 70% equates to a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions of 932 tonnes over the same seven-year period.

Apart from the significant savings in total energy and maintenance costs over a seven-year period amounting to 83.5 per cent, the L10 Lithium batteries offer several advantages including low environmental impact, less waste through longer replacement intervals making it a far more sustainable technology compared to existing practice, no memory effect, and smaller physical size.

Clevertronics is a leading manufacturer and distributer of exit and emergency lighting products in Australia.
