An Adelaide company has developed dog toys that take advantage of dogs’ superior sense of smell to keep them occupied.
The Adelaide Advertiser reports that the ‘Schuzzle’ is the brain-child of Justin Daley and his company My Clever Dog. The toy features scent discs which can be interchanged and are designed to make dogs want to play with them.
According to Daley, the idea for the toy came to him courtesy of his Labrador which he had for 14 years.
“…He had some dietary issues and that’s what originally got me thinking about trying to create a long-lasting toy that entertained the dog for a long period of time, but everything was food based,’’ he said.
“I started researching canines from the ground up and looking at what was the best way of speaking to a canine’s senses.
“Their sense of smell far outweighs their sense of taste. They only have a sixth of the tastebuds that we do but their sense of smell is 100,000 times greater.’’
My Clever Dog aims to raise $75,000 through a Kickstarter and hopefully launch the product after that.
