The new Wagga OneSteel Metalcentre store was recently officially opened by Australian rugby league legend, former NSW Blues and Canterbury-Bulldogs captain, Steve Mortimer OAM in the presence of local and state politicians and OneSteel Metalcentre customers.
Located in Bomen Industrial Park, OneSteel Metalcentre, which was formed following the consolidation of the Leeton and Wagga Metaland stores, is designed to fulfil the steel supply and processing needs for Wagga and the surrounding Riverina region.
Speaking at the opening, Steve Mortimer, who is originally from Wagga, said it was great to see an Australian company like OneSteel support rural and regional Australia with the new OneSteel Metalcentre store. Of the 50 stores across the nation, OneSteel Metalcentre operates 40 in rural and regional centres, underlining their continuing commitment to the bush.
Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance and the Federal Member for Riverina, Michael McCormack MP, congratulated OneSteel Metalcentre on its investment and vision in developing this new site.
Observing that OneSteel has serviced the Riverina in one form or another since 1981, he said the new store will see the company grow even further, providing more opportunities and a powerful boost to the local economy.
The State Member for Wagga Wagga and NSW Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier for Rural and Regional Affairs, Daryl Maguire MP, noted that more companies should follow OneSteel’s example and establish their network in the area.
Wagga Mayor Rod Kendall, along with Daryl Maguire and Steve Mortimer unveiled a commemorative plaque officially opening the new OneSteel Metalcentre Wagga facility.
At the conclusion of the opening, OneSteel Metalcentre presented a cheque for $500 to the local Willans Hill School on behalf of the company.
According to Greg Mitchell, Southern NSW Regional Manager, OneSteel Metalcentre, the Wagga OneSteel Metalcentre store will offer an expansive range of steel processing solutions, products, project management and technical expertise to service their growing customer base in the Riverina.
