Joy Global’s new P&H 4100XPC AC electric mining shovel is playing a key part in the performance and growth of Rolleston Coal through better cycle time and utilisation, improved job efficiency and higher rates of availability for a whole new level of performance.
Simon Ridgway, Director, Sales and Marketing Mining Products, Joy Global Australasia explains the new P&H 4100XPC AC electric mining shovel loads their 325 tonne trucks in three passes, enabling them to move more dirt more quickly and reach their production goals faster. He adds the shovel has achieved a record 55,000 BCMs in one standard shift (12 hours) during October with the Rolleston Coal personnel. No shovel has broken the 50,000 BCM barrier previously.
Assembly of the shovel began in January 2013 during one of the hottest weeks in recent Australian history. Joy Global worked closely with Glencore management to ensure the shovel was delivered safely with no Lost Time Injuries or Medical Treatment Injuries, on-time and on budget.
With the successful delivery and commissioning of this latest machine, Joy Global continues to partner with Glencore to increase production and productivity at Rolleston Coal.
According to Ridgway, the performance of the Rolleston electric mining shovel has set a benchmark for AC machines in Australia; in the last two months the machine has had an average availability rate of over 95 per cent.
The new shovel’s performance comes from its proven Centurion electrical control system, industry leading IGBT AC technology, rugged structures and the industry’s only OEM-owned field service and support network.
Phil Price, Operations Manager at Rolleston Coal comments that the new shovel is helping to increase productivity levels in a safe and reliable manner, and has fast become an important piece of equipment at the mine.
This is the first AC shovel for Rolleston Coal and follows on from the success of its sister P&H 4100XPC AC electric mining shovel, which is also performing to expectations at Bulga Coal, located in the Hunter Valley in New South Wales. This is the sixth 4100XPC AC shovel to be delivered by Joy Global within Australasia.
