An opal fossicker has died after falling down a disused mine shaft near Coober Pedy.
The 41 year old man went missing over the weekend while fossicking, according to the ABC.
The man's body was retrieved yesterday.
The man was the third prospector to have gone missing this year, after one went missing near Marble Bar in February, and one 76 year old prospector went missing in May, however both those men were found well after a short time missing.
While the dangers of fossicking in remote areas are high, there can also be high rewards.
Earlier this year a fossicker uncovered a massive 753 carat sapphire near Emerald, QLD.
If you are going fossicking or prospecting this season, remember to tell people where you are headed, take water, and communication devices, and be wary of uneven or former mine shafts in your area.
