Member of Lane Cove, Anthony Roberts has been named the new Resources and Energy Minister for New South Wales following the resignation of Chris Hartcher last week.

Former Resources Minister Hartcher resigned amid Independent Commission Against Corruption investigations which saw the watchdog execute a search warrant on Wednesday.

“My resignation follows the issue of a search warrant by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) against me,” Hartcher said.

“I am confident I will be cleared of any wrongdoing.

“This is the first contact I have had with the ICAC and given that their investigations have thus far had an unknown timeframe, it is appropriate that I resign.”

Premier Barry O'Farrell announced the reshuffle this morning.

"Anthony Roberts has been an outstanding performer as minister for Fair Trading and thoroughly deserves promotion to a senior portfolio which is critical to the strength of the NSW economy," O'Farrell said.

"Anthony has displayed an appetite for reform and he's the right person to carry on the NSW Government's work in the electricity sector to keep downward pressure on electricity prices."

Member for Penrith Stuart Ayres will also step up, taking on the Fair Trading portfolio.

"I'm delighted to reward Stuart Ayres for the passion and drive he has shown as Member for Penrith and parliamentary secretary for Western Sydney, and previously as a parliamentary secretary for Transport and Roads and Government Whip," O'Farrell said.

"Stuart has strongly represented the interests of small business owners in Penrith and as Fair Trading Minister I know he'll work hard to cut the red tape burden on small business to help reduce the costs of doing business in NSW.

"I'm delighted Stuart will assist me in my role as minister for Western Sydney - another sign of the importance my government places on region as we repay the trust put in us by the people of Western Sydney at the last election."
