The CEO of Bechtel touched down in Gladstone this week to inspect the three LNG projects being constructed by his company on Curtis Island.

Forbes Magazine counts Riley Bechtel in its world’s richest 500 list, and this morning the Gladstone Observer reported the billionaire was having breakfast local restaurant Rocksalt.

Bechtel is believed to be visiting Gladstone on whirlwind trip to inspect the three multi-billion LNG plants under construction.

His company is constructing three major projects on Curtis Island including Australian Pacific LNG, Gladstone LNG and Queensland Curtis LNG.

QCLNG is the most advanced of the LNG projects on Curtis Island, with first gas expected in 2014.

The three Curtis Island developments are together worth more than $60 billion.

The workforce for the projects is expected to peak in mid 2014 at 10,500, with the company saying 47% of those are local workers.

The company recently revealed that $500 million has been paid in wages in the two years since work began on the plants.
