Mines safety investigators have arrived at the Brightstar gold mine today to begin the investigation into the death of a machine operator.
The machine operator was a man from Boulder, aged 63 years.
Mine contractor CPC Engineering’s HR manager Ken Sharpe spoke with Mining Australia this afternoon.
“At the moment we don’t know [what happened],” he said.
“Department of Mines and Petroleum are undertaking the investigation today, so there is no information.
“Until we’ve done the investigation we just don’t know.”
CPC released the following statement today:
“CPC is aware that there has, sadly, been a fatality involving one of its employees."
“Safety at work is the highest priority for CPC and the company is assisting the authorities in investigating the accident.
“Until this investigation has been completed, it is premature to comment on the details of what has occurred.
“Our thoughts are with the family of the employee concerned and as much assistance as possible is being provided for them through this tragic time.
“CPC has also made assistance available to all affected employees.”
This is the tenth mining related death in Australia in 2014.
