International peers to share collaboration initiatives as AOG opens

Editorial

The opening day of The Australasian Oil & Gas Exhibition & Conference (AOG) will feature a discussion on how industry collaboration can help secure Australia's position as a top competitor on the world stage. Key participants in this discussion include Shell, Chevron and the Government of Western Australia.

The AOG opened today at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre with Plenary and Australian Industry Participation sessions to focus on growing international competition and issues such as regulation, skills shortages and wage rates.

Innovation and groundbreaking technologies are paramount to ensuring the successful future of the industry, according to Plenary Session Chair Deidre Willmott, CEO of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA. She adds that harnessing the benefits of the oil and gas sector is going to be critical for the future success of the WA economy and the WA business community.

The highly anticipated opening day of Australia’s largest oil and gas event will feature high-profile speakers including Hon Bill Marmion MLA - Minister for Mines & Petroleum; Housing, Government of Western Australia; Andrew Smith - Country Chair, Australia & VP Australia & New Zealand, Shell; Gerry Flaherty - General Manager Asset Development, Chevron Australia; Tom Smith - Senior Energy Advisor, PricewaterhouseCoopers; Jeanette Roberts - Vice President, Kvaerner Australia; and Kym Bills - CEO, Western Australian Energy Research Alliance.

The Plenary and Australian Industry Participation sessions are just two of the highlights of the day one conference program and opening day of AOG 2014 at Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The AOG exhibition plays host to over 550 exhibitors from more than 20 countries, including the US, UK, China, Norway, Scotland, Singapore, Holland, Italy, France and Belgium.

There will be three new zones to the exhibition floor for 2014: the Non-destructive Testing and Condition Monitoring Zone and the Instrumentation, Control and Automation Zone, both offering comprehensive free seminars throughout the exhibition, and finally the Australian Industry Zone.

AOG is being held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre from 19 to 21 February 2014.
