AS consumers and professionals continue to move towards toward 2K and 4K resolution content, large-sized display panel shipments have risen in March 2014.
According to TrendForce’s latest report, manufacturers shipped 66.57 million large-sized panels in March 2014, which is 11% more than February’s figures.
This is a temporary rise, according to TrendForce, which can be traced to increased demand for both TV sets and tablet devices from Chinese consumers for their 1 May holiday.
International TV brands launching new 2K and 4K models during this period, as well as the upcoming World Cup Games in Brazil, also added to the demand for large display panels.
TrendForce indicated that the overall 4K2K TV panel shipment in March surged 175% MOM to 1.06 million units. Penetration rates of 4K2K TV panels also were up from 2 percent in the previous month to 5.3 percent.
Currently, Taiwanese manufacturers lead the supply of large-sized panels (50, 58 and 65 inch panels), but Korean manufacturers are highly competitive and challenging Taiwanese market shares.
TrendForce reported that 55”and 50” sized panels got the most market share in March, 24% and 21% shares respectively.
The 42” panel ranked in third with 13% market share. The 49” and 65” panels both had market shares of 11%. These five sizes controlled 80% of total 4K and 2K TV panel shipments.
