Specialist high performance epoxy prepreg producer in Australia, GMS Composites is expanding its business focus in South East Asia.
The company has recently appointed Lawrence Kok, who joins the company in the newly created role of Regional Manager - South East Asia, covering Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.
To be based in Kuala Lumpur, Mr Kok has been appointed as part of an ongoing international growth strategy by GMS Composites, targeting key regions where there is a growing demand for high performance composites in niche markets such as aerospace and defence, automotive, motorsports, and high end sporting goods.
Mr Kok is a chemistry graduate with over 20 years of technical sales and business development experience in the region; he is fluent in English, Malay, Indonesian, Cantonese and Mandarin.
GMS Composites Managing Director Sam Weller commented that the SE Asia market offered lots of good opportunities, particularly with their BMI and epoxy tooling prepreg options and custom design prepreg service, both for the automotive and motorsport sectors, and in the aircraft segment to support maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) needs.
From its main production and warehouse facilities in Melbourne, Australia, the company is well placed to supply customers in SE Asia and beyond, using specialist air and sea freight logistics partners equipped to handle and transport prepregs.
GMS Composites has particular expertise in developing and supplying bespoke composite prepreg tooling and moulding solutions, working closely with its customers to formulate and develop custom prepreg systems, engineered to meet specific application needs and performance requirements. The bespoke composite prepreg service has proved of particular benefit to aerospace, defence and motorsport customers needing prototypes and short run development speciality prepreg systems, in addition to accelerating a number of new product development programmes, helping OEMs to bring new products to market more quickly.
All standard and custom prepreg product development is done using in-house technical expertise. R&D programmes are supported by leading Australian composites research institutes and universities, which are a key part of the growing engineering and materials science cluster located in Victoria.
GMS Composites has developed a range of ten standard prepreg resins systems for fabricating both high performance composite tooling and to mould finished composite parts using vacuum production processing.
