A factory fire on Saturday night damaged the premises of the Melbourne Machinery Co. in the south east Melbourne suburb of Clayton South.
The Age reports that around 50 fire fighters were called to the company’s premises on Main St at about 7pm on Saturday night.
The fire took about 45 minutes to be brought under control and aerial fire fighting units were needed to help.
Nobody was injured in the fire, however the factory sustained extensive damage in the blaze and a large portion of the building's roof collapsed.
Fire fighters ensured the fire did not spread to the adjoining buildings.
As a result of the fire, local roads were closed to traffic for a time and local residents were advised to shut windows to protect themselves from smoke.
