Former Australian Workers Union boss Paul Howes has been appointed as a director at the advisory department of KPMG.
Fairfax and others report that Howes, who headed the AWU for seven years, will be consulting in business transformation, superannuation and transaction services.
“The firm has offered me a diverse role, with a great opportunity to use my skills and experiences in a different way, working with highly talented teams,” he was quoted as saying.
“I am very much looking forward to my new career, where I hope to use my experience to help organisations grow and be successful.”
As the former national secretary of the AWU, Howes was an advocate for issues including energy security – lobbying for fewer restrictions on CSG mining and a gas reservation scheme – and a plan for the national steel industry.
