A new book by UK energy management expert, Dr Steven Fawkes discusses the threats to energy security in the modern world, and explains how energy efficiency using existing technology can help reduce demand.

The turmoil in the Middle East and events in Ukraine threaten to destabilise the world’s energy security. Improving energy efficiency can bring about multiple benefits including reduced energy costs, reduced emissions, energy security and job creation.

‘Energy Efficiency: The Definitive Guide to the Cheapest, Cleanest, Fastest Source of Energy’ written by Dr Fawkes clearly defines energy efficiency, outlining the problem and providing tangible solutions.

According to Dr Fawkes, energy security is once again under the spotlight since there is no sign of the Middle Eastern conflict abating and energy supplies continue to be used as a weapon in the Russia-Ukraine war. Energy efficiency has long been talked about but never really understood or appreciated by policy makers. It is therefore the responsibility of individuals, businesses and governments to take these threats to their own energy supply seriously, understand what energy efficiency is all about, and learn how to deploy it.

Dr Fawkes explains that energy efficiency is by far the cheapest and cleanest response to reducing costs, lowering emissions and addressing the evolving energy security concerns. Long-term, sustainable solutions will ensure the world will have sufficient energy to power its future growth without relying on Middle Eastern, or Russian supplies.

The new book covers every aspect of energy efficiency, including the barriers, funding options and technologies available for effective energy management.

In a recent review about the book, ING’s Stephen Hibbert says, “Steven Fawkes provides an authoritative and comprehensive overview of all the issues and arguments in the current debate about how to overcome the barriers and create the enabling conditions to massively scale-up deployment of energy efficiency measures”.

Stephen Hibbert goes on to encourage energy specialists, project developers, business managers, policymakers, NGOs, financiers, analysts and other stakeholders to read the book and help the world get one big step closer to realising the significant potential of energy efficiency.

Energy Efficiency: The Definitive Guide to the Cheapest, Cleanest, Fastest Source of Energy is published by Gower.
