The closing Electrolux factory in Orange has pledged $200,000 worth of stock to the local Ronald McDonald House.

The Central West Daily reports that the Canobolas Cottage community board acknowledged the contribution, which was pledged before the factory’s closure – which will happen in 2015 – was announced.

“Without what they’ve done, we would never have gotten to this point,” the board’s chair, Joanne Lewis, told Central West Daily.

The plant’s general manager Mark O’Kane said it was unfortunate the factory had to close, but “there will always be a little bit of the Orange plant here.”

The first stage of three stages for the McDonald House development is three weeks from completion. Work began in mid-2011.

The closure of the factory was announced by the Swedish parent company October last year, and will see 500 jobs lost at Australia’s last refrigerator factory.

Elsewhere, the Daily reports that public tours of the factory will be available from early next year until the following September.
