PERTH-based Mobilarm says an oil and gas syndicate in Canada has purchased its helicopter transfer beacon for $0.5 million.

The syndicate, consisting of Suncor Energy, Huskey Energy and Exxon Mobil, will receive 5 years worth of equipment, service and recertification in relation to the sMRT AU10-HT helicopter transfer beacon.

The sMRT AU10-HT solution was customised for the specific needs of the syndicate. It is a man-overboard system which is approved for flight use.

Mobilarm’s line of man overboard devices automatically spot an event, and instantly alert captain, crew and rescue authorities to ensure the crew member is recovered as soon as possible.

The man-overboard beacon automatically activates when it is immersed in water, and the system will automatically alert crew on the traditional 121.5MHz radio within 2 to 5 seconds of a man-overboard incident.

The GPS location of the beacon is updated via Authorised Inspection Station (AIS) every minute, allowing nearby vessels to also participate in the search and rescue.

The beacon has up to a 75 mile range, with worldwide satellite coverage.
