The Calibre Group have won a contract for the detailed design of the 330km heavy haul main line rail for the Roy Hill iron ore mine.
The $23 million contract was awarded by Samsung C&T, and will see Calibre provided the design for the railway, passing loops, and other associated civil infrastructure.
Ray Horsburgh, Calibre's acting managing director, welcomed the contract, stating that "the award follows the earlier signing of a MOU with Samsung and we believe it positions the company well for further potential work with Samsung on Roy Hill".
Samsung C&T is the EPC provider for themine.
The design work has already begun and is not subject to the Roy Hill mine's debt financing issues.
Work on the detailed designed is expected to be completed mid next year.
It will employ 60 people at its peak.
