Mining giant BHP Billiton has today donated $500,000 to aid communities affected by last week’s bushfires in New South Wales.
Making the donation to the Red Cross, the miner said the funds will help response and recovery work in the state.
“BHP Billiton has had a long relationship with communities in New South Wales, where two of our core coal assets are based,” BHP Billiton Coal President, Dean Dalla Valle said.
“We hope this donation will assist Red Cross in helping the communities that have been affected by the bushfires in the region.”
The company is also pledging to donate two dollars for every one dollar donated by its employees.
BHP Billiton has approximately 4,130 employees and contractors in New South Wales.
