The ACCC has begun investigating the CFMEU over what Boral claims is an illegal boycott on Melbourne building sites.

The Australian Financial Review reports that the ACCC will investigate claims due to new evidence cited by the commission’s chair, Rod Sims.

Sims yesterday told Senate estimates that new information had emerged regarding Boral’s claims that the union had blocked contractors and employees from pouring concrete at Grocon sites for a year.

“Originally when we looked into it, I was in Melbourne when a bit of this occurred and asked my people to look at it," said Sims.

“When we talked to people we couldn’t get them to give us much evidence or co-operation."

Boral CEO Mike Kane said last month the company would not cede to what he called “bullies” at the union.
