Samsung wants a common platform for wearables and health devices

SAMSUNG is making a push for a common platform on which health devices and wearables can operate.

According to Samsung, the current variety of different applications and platforms needed to get health sensors, devices and wearables working will slow down innovation and the ability by companies to get their products to market.

Samsung is proposing a common system so that different manufacturers, whatever their size, can ensure their products work interchangeably with each other.

A unified system would include ways to exchange and analyse data from different devices -- a particular feature when it comes to health and lifestyle related wearables.

Samsung's fitness devices and smart watches currently only work with the South Korean company's own phones, although other manufacturers have created smart watches that work with a wider range of Android phones.
