Queensland-based meat producer, IMT Food Services (IMTFS) will launch a new custom-built production facility in December this year, giving the company the ability to triple its production capabilities.
The 2,500 sqm custom-built packaging facility is located in Eagle Farm, Brisbane and according o IMTFS was conceived, built and developed in less than 12 months.
IMTFS, which produces value-added beef, pork and lamb raw meat products, will, as of 6 December, have the ability to produce in excess of 200 tonnes per week and will employ 90 staff members, all of whom will relocate from the company’s original facility at Murrarie.
“It’s a big move” said Darren Walsh, one of IMTFS’ board of directors, “but it’s one we knew we had to take if the business was going to continue growing and meeting the demands of the domestic and export meat market.
“Processing will be much faster and more efficient, but most importantly our ability to tailor client needs will be far greater.”
According to Walsh, IMTFS’ focus on customer needs, regardless of volumes large or small, combined with the ability to package products in unique ways for each client, has been critical in maintaining and expanding the business, which in 2010 completed a management buyout of the Food Services division.
“We are willing to listen to requests from clients for alternative packaging and sizing and by catering to these customised needs we have gained an incredibly strong competitive edge,” he said.
“Today’s meat consumer has become far more discerning and our customers want flexibility and options to meet increasingly diverse market needs, and we know that packaging and presentation plays a huge role in their decision process, and that’s where we are really shaking up the industry.”
Walsh also cites having a dedicated team of Quality Assurance and product development staff on-site to ensure their products are produced to specification and align with all regulatory requirements is an important part of the IMTFS equation.
IMTFS processes 100 percent Australian meats and supplies them to major retailers, distributors, foodservice organisations, mining camps and large caterers, as well as export and wholesale markets and other manufacturers.
