Leading quality solutions provider to industries worldwide, Intertek has opened a minerals processing laboratory in Adelaide to meet the growing demand for quality metallurgy testing.
Centrally located in Adelaide, Intertek’s new minerals processing laboratory will provide local support services and capabilities, expanding upon the services provided by their existing analytical laboratory in South Australia. Intertek has been operating in Adelaide for over 20 years.
According to John Fowler, Senior Vice President for Intertek’s Minerals Business Line, Intertek has expanded their laboratory mineral processing services to meet the increasing demand for metallurgical test work in Australia. He adds that the new facility complements Intertek’s growing Mineral, Oil and Gas and Agricultural products laboratory network in Adelaide and South Australia.
South Australian Minister for Mineral Resources and Energy Tom Koutsantonis will officially open Intertek’s first purpose-built laboratory and metallurgy facility in Australia.
Mr Koutsantonis observes that Intertek, by choosing to build the laboratory in Adelaide, recognises that South Australia is at the centre of Australia’s road, rail and air logistics networks and well positioned to service customers from large-scale mining developments in the west and the north.
The new facility has been designed to accommodate a flexible laboratory space that can be tailored to the needs of individual projects. A 600m² warehouse has been fitted out into two laboratory spaces: A dry processing area for crushing, milling, screening and mixing dry mineral samples; and a wet area for flotation, magnetic and gravity separation, filtration and particle sizing.
An adjoining secure block in the facility will meet the needs of clients for larger scale pilot-plant work, while a section of the office area of the building has also been converted into laboratory space to house an X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and sulphur-carbon analyser, as well as a purpose designed hydrometallurgy laboratory.
Generous office space has been allocated in the facility to meet staffing needs and provide meeting and conference space for clients.
