Modbus to LAN Ethernet bridge connection

THE 10/100 Ethernet bridge from Schneider Electric connects devices using standard Modbus protocol to factory local area networks (LANs) using Ethernet, TCP/IP and Modbus/TCP protocols.

The Ethernet bridge supports multiple devices on the serial line and multiple Modbus TCP connections.

It also enables multiple control systems, HMI, logging recorders, etc. to access the connected PLCs through one Modbus port.

A special function allows the Ethernet bridge to connect Modbus over Ethernet even if no Ethernet capable host is available.

Functions include the conversion of Modbus RTU or Modbus ASCII protocol to Modbus/TCP (slave functionality), and the conversion of Modbus/ TCP to Modbus RTU or Modbus ASCII (master functionality).

The bridge also enables multiple masters (MMI, DCS, PLC) to access devices connected to serial ports.

Two units can be used to bridge a Modbus connection over a TCP/IP network.

The bridge supports SNMP (read only), DHCP, and dynamic addressing on both Modbus and Ethernet side.

The serial interface can be RS232 or RS485 interface, switch selectable, or RS485 two-wire and four-wire operation. The Modbus RJ-45 connector for RS232, can be wired to a PLC with straight patch cable.

Screw terminals are used for RS485 and RS232 interfaces (parallel with RJ-45 connector).

RS232 radio modem support (RTS/CTS) is also offered. The serial speed is 300 to 115,200 baud. The Ethernet bridge supports multiple serial devices through RS485 interface (up to 16).

The Ethernet interface is a 10/100BaseT network interface, with a shielded connector. Ethernet v2 encapsulation TCP/IP Version 4.

The bridge has a good link indicator LED and allows up to eight quasi-simultaneous connections.

Power supply is 9-30V dc and 9-24V ac, suitable for 12V and 24V operated systems. The maximum total power requirement is 3W.

The case measures approximately 35 x 95 x 60mm, with DIN rail snap mounting. The device is able to operate in environments between 0°C and 60°C with 20% to 90% humidity, non-condensing.

The configuration parameters include: IP address, gateway and netmask; baud rate, parity, number of bits, stopbits, 2/4 wire operation; Modbus RTU/ASCII or other protocol; PLC address; and timeouts.

Configuration parameters are stored in nonvolatile memory.

The status indicators include six coloured LEDs to display Ethernet, Modbus and device status.

The unit carries CE, UL, CSA, and FM Class 1, Division 2 approvals.
