Handheld voice picking system

PEACOCKS MD&B , Australian Conversay distributor and authorised business partner with Symbol Australia, has launched a world class voice picking solution resident on Symbol’s MC9000 range of mobile handheld computers, called StockTalk. It is an easy-to-use and efficient voice picking system far more advanced than anything ever developed previously, according to Peacocks.

StockTalk is specifically designed for warehouse and distribution customers that require hands-free operation for speech-recognition and voice prompted applications.

The voice recognition engine final product was made possible by Peacocks MD&B, investing two years of research and development in conjunction with Symbol Technologies and Conversay. The system delivers additional functionality and increased ease of use. The end result is a world first in ‘ready-to-go’ voice-to-text and text-to-voice technology.

Pre-programmed with multiple speech/nationality accent discrimination, background noise filtering, StockTalk includes a superior microphone and headset technology co-developed with MobileOne Australia.

StockTalk has an extensive character/word dictionary so each unit can be assigned to more than one operator without time consuming re-configuring.

“This new voice-operated and mobile computing solution enables customers in warehouse environments to operate faster and more accurately by eliminating the need to manually enter data or read instructions,” said Symbol Australia’s Systems Engineer and Logistics Expert, Antony Edwards. “StockTalk represents a leap forward in inventory data management, dramatically increasing worker productivity and improving operational efficiencies.”

Warehouse workers benefit from increased mobility as they move from task to task listening to instructions through a headset and communicating verbally with their customers’ existing warehouse management system over a wireless network.

StockTalk also provides real-time views into speech-directed application data and operator activities for data reconciliation, updating and management.

Peacocks MD&B can further enhance the StockTalk programming to provide additional automated functions and activities, such as pick quantity verification, product location confirmation and stock location assistance/direction (in both speech and text formats).

The software’s API (Application Programming Interface) can be accessed by a customer’s own pre-existing application to enable text-to-speech or speech-to-text wherever it is required, making it possible to tailor a solution to in-house processes.

StockTalk will provide solutions to inventory and data management in environments and situations such as:

* Freezer rooms where heavy gloves are required

* High-stacked products that standard laser scanners cannot reach

* Shrink wrapped pallets/products and recording stock when both hands are needed for product handling.

The small memory and CPU requirement of the StockTalk application (less than 1Mb at 200Mhz) leaves your Symbol MC9000 terminal free to contain and operate other non-voice related functions, giving real value from mobile computing investment.

The new StockTalk voice picking solution is available exclusively from Peacocks MD&B and their partners.
